Thank You

Thank you for everyone who helped me create the Technology Thursday's Initiative.  I can't wait to implement it next year.  If you have any more ideas throughout the summer, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call me.  Have a wonderful summer!

My goal is to send out an e-mail in the middle of August to the Technology Thursday's Committee and to the staff asking for volunteers to join the Facilitating Committee.  We will plan to meet a couple of times together before the school year begins to ensure that everything is in place to begin the initiative at the start of the year.

End of the Year

I know everyone is busy with the end of the school year.  Only 7 more days left!  I have had a chance to talk with many people in passing about the Initiative.  If you have a minute, please look at the Initiative as it is coming together to give some input and ideas.  Thank you!

Funding

The goal of the Technology Thursday's Initiative is to start by using very little money to entice the educators and district to help more of them join in with this initiative. This way we can use the little money we have to purchase food for educators attending each month (an incentive to get them to attend) and to compensate the committee for teaching the technology to the educators each month.  The team will be teaching educators how to use the programs we already have access to in our district. Eventually, grants could be written to get new resources for educators and to learn new programs. Below is a grant we can apply for on a yearly basis, so the committee can continue to learn new technology and programs to keep the initiative going.

To fund the small amount we need, the committee will apply for the NEA Foundation’s Learning & Leadership Grant. This grant awards educators with $2,000 - $5,000 for leading their colleagues in professional growth.

  •  Applications are always accepted, but are only reviewed February 1st, June 1st, and October 15th.
  • Professional development must improve practice, curriculum, and student achievement.

Restrictions: Grant funds may not be used to:
  • pursue degrees;
  • pay indirect costs, grant administration fees, or salaries; and
  • support travel costs or conference fees for more than one person.
Duration: Grants will fund activities for twelve months from the date of the award.

Eligibility: Applicants must be practicing U.S:
  • public school teachers in grades PreK–12;
  • public school education support professionals, or;
  • faculty and staff at public higher education institutions.
What other things would we need funding for?  Does anyone know of other grants that we could apply for that can be useful for our initiative?
